11/26/10 - Playoff Week 4 - Mayfield @ Beechwood |
Here's the KYPost.com story from Terry Boehmker: FORT MITCHELL, Ky. - For the second consecutive year, Beechwood football players are dealing with the disappointment of losing to Mayfield in the semifinals of the state playoffs. Mayfield defeated Beechwood, 38-14, in a Class A semifinal game on Friday in Fort Mitchell to keep the Tigers from attaining the goal they set every season. “Our expectations are state titles,” said Beechwood coach Noel Rash. “That’s exactly what this senior class expected, and we came up short. We came up short two years in a row now. We’ve got to come back (next year) and find a way to beat these guys.” Mayfield (14-0) will play Hazard (14-0) in the state championship game on Dec. 3 in Bowling Green. Beechwood ends the season with a 10-4 record. Mayfield won last year’s semifinal game by a 38-0 score. Beechwood put up a better fight in Friday’s rematch, but it wasn’t enough to upset the state’s top-ranked Class A team. After recovering a Beechwood fumble on the third play of the game, Mayfield scored on a 57-yard pass from senior quarterback Luke Guhy to senior wide receiver Javarius Richardson and their team never trailed. The Tigers didn’t commit another turnover until late in the fourth quarter, but they only put together two scoring drives. “You’ve got to make breaks for yourself, and we didn’t,” Rash said. “We didn’t execute at times. And when you don’t execute against a team like (Mayfield), and you turn it over, they make you pay.” Both of Beechwood’s touchdowns came on passes from senior quarterback Michael Colosimo to junior tight end Corey Cruse. In the second quarter, Cruse made a leaping catch and fell across the goal line on a 29-yard pass that enabled the Tigers to pull within 14-7. But Mayfield scored on a 4-yard run by sophomore Jonathan Jackson on its final possession of the half and led 21-7 at the break. In the third quarter, Cruse pulled down a high-arching pass in the corner of the end zone to cut Mayfield’s lead to 24-14. On the ensuing kickoff, however, Mayfield senior Devin Jones bobbled the ball at the 3-yard line, scooped it up and raced 97 yards for a touchdown. “The kickoff return was the dagger,” Rash said. “I mean it was pretty evident to everybody. We got a little momentum swing and they stuck it to us right there.” Mayfield coach Joe Morris felt the same way about the crucial kickoff return that gave the Cardinals a 31-14 lead with 2:11 left in the third quarter. “It was a big momentum switch for us,” Morris said, “and you could see (the Tigers) just deflate after that one.” Beechwood turned the ball over on downs on its next two possessions and Colosimo had a pass intercepted in the final minutes of the game. To run time off the clock, Mayfield kept the ball on the ground for most of the fourth quarter before scoring its last touchdown on a 9-yard pass from Guhy to junior William Higginson. Guhy completed 14 of 21 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored a TD. The Cardinals rushed for 120 yards with Jackson picking up 90 on 24 carries. Beechwood had 103 yards rushing and Colosimo completed 8 of 30 passes for 180 yards. Most of the Tigers’ rushing yardage came on a 60-yard breakaway run by sophomore Gage Erdman in the third quarter. “It had nothing to do with our character,” Rash said of the Tigers’ season-ending loss. “That’s what allowed us to stay in the game and fight back. We just didn’t execute at times. We were just inconsistent.”

11/12/10 - Playoff Week 2 - Bellevue @ Beechwood |
Here's the NKY.com story from Kevin Goheen: Beechwood took control of Friday’s night Class A second round playoff match up with district rival Bellevue from the opening kickoff and never let up en route to a 63-7 win at Edgar McNabb Stadium. Beechwood (9-3) will play Frankfort next Friday for the regional championship and a berth in the state semifinals at stake. Gage Erdman ran the opening kickoff back 82 yards for Beechwood’s first score of the night and the Tigers from Fort Mitchell made it 14-0 when Cameron Vocke picked up a Bellevue fumble on its first possession and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. It was one of four touchdowns for Vocke, who rushed for 160 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns. He added a 48-yard touchdown pass reception from quarterback Michael Colosimo in the second quarter. It actually took Beechwood’s offense until its second possession to put points on the board. “We come out and try to set a tone in every game,” said Vocke. “Gage did a good job on the kickoff. We had to get warmed but we did our job after that.” Beechwood out-gained Bellevue 411-137. Beechwood had 300 yards of offense in the first half. Vocke and Colosimo did not play in the second half, as was the case with most of Beechwood’s starters. Beechwood had beaten Bellevue three weeks ago, 52-7. “I know we have more talent than them at this time but our focus is play Beechwood football and play to the level that you’re going to have to play at to win this whole thing,” said Beechwood coach Noel Rash. “We’ve got a lot of things to still shore up. We messed up plenty of things tonight but when you have a guy like 42 (Vocke) you can mess up and still look pretty good. That guy makes you look like a good coach.” Frankfort has beaten Bishop Brossart and Walton-Verona by a combined score of 96-7 in its first two playoff games. “We’ve got our hands full because they have plenty of speed and plenty of athletes,” said Rash. “They match up with us really well so we’ll have our hands full.” Bellevue ends its season 5-7 under first-year coach Russ Shearer. The Tigers, who lost 19 seniors from last year’s team that lost in the regional final to Beechwood, beat Eminence 32-12 last week in the opening round. “We have a lot of young kids and I told them if they want to look at the scoreboard, use it as a measuring stick,” said Shearer. “What do we have to do in the next couple of years to get to that level? That’s what I wanted them to take from tonight’s game.”

11/5/10 - Playoff Week 1 - Tates Creek @ Simon Kenton |
Week 1 of the playoffs was a soggy, cold and windy night as we traveled over to Simon Kenton as Tates Creek came up from Lexington to take on the Pioneers. Simon Kenton got the scoring underway in the first quarter when Chad Lawrence hooked up with Ryan Winkler on a 42 yard pass play to give the Pioneers a 7-0 lead. Credit Tates Creek's defense as they kept the Pioneers out of the end zone on the next 3 scoring drives, forcing Cody Herald to kick 3 field goals. All three were good. Tates Creek would get their two scores from Austin Crutcher. The first in the second quarter on a 14 yard pass play from Martrell Berry making the score at the half 13-7, Pioneers. The second and final score came from Crutcher on a 15 yard pass play with 8:51 to go in the third quarter. Simon Kenton would finish out the scoring in the game in dramatic style as Derek Mills picked up a Tates Creek fumble and ran it in from about 25 yards. Simon Kenton would win the game 23-13 and advance to week 2 of the playoffs and face Henry Clay on the road.

10/29/10 - Week 10 - Beechwood @ Newport Central Catholic |
When Beechwood and Newport Central Catholic get together on the football field, it's almost an instant classic battle. That's what we saw Saturday night as we closed out the regular season at Newport. Here's the story from the Enquirer's Marc Hardin: "The annual clash of long-time adversaries included a strong Beechwood start led by the running of Cameron Vocke, who rushed for all but five of his 127 yards on Beechwood's first two possessions, and a fierce NewCath rally fueled by quarterback Brady Hightchew, who ran for 132 yards and passed for 128, and tailback Chris Kelly, who rushed for 136. "They were kickin' our butts up front," said Beechwood head coach Noel Rash, who saw his team get out to a 25-8 lead with 8:10 left in the third quarter only to watch the Thoroughbreds score 17 unanswered points to tie it. Following a missed 44-yard field-goal attempt by Nussbaum with 3:19 to play in regulation, Hightchew led NewCath on an 11-play, 80-yard drive that included his 20-yard run to the Beechwood 22 and was capped by his 14-yard touchdown strike to Brennan Daunt. Matt Burns' extra-point kick tied the score, 25-all, with 54.2 seconds left. What followed were two overtimes, two game-concluding Beechwood plays that will live in infamy at NewCath, including a gutsy two-point conversion call from coach Rash to end the game, and a Beechwood upset win few in attendance will forget. Vocke was in the middle of the Tigers' fast start and their furious finish. He scored Beechwood's first two touchdowns and was involved in the final two plays that carried the Tigers to their sixth win in a row, which stopped a NewCath five-game win streak. Beechwood (7-3), ranked eighth in the Enquirer coaches' poll, and NewCath (8-2), ranked fourth, exchanged touchdowns and extra-point kicks in the first overtime. In the second overtime, Hightchew's 2-yard run and Burns' kick gave the 'Breds their first lead of the game at 39-32. On Beechwood's ensuing possession, quarterback Michael Colosimo (181 yards passing) handed off to Vocke on first down. Vocke attempted a halfback pass but could not find an open receiver and scrambled around while eluding tacklers. He eventually connected with Nussbaum (96 yards receiving) on a sideline pass Nussbaum caught at the 4 yard line. Nussbaum leaped over two NewCath defenders and fell on the pylon for the touchdown. "I had to get in the end zone," Nussbaum said. Instead of settling for a tie with a near-sure-thing extra-point kick from Nussbaum, which would have forced a third overtime, coach Rash decided to go for broke on the conversion play and he called for two points. "We went for it because of how good they are up front," the coach said of the 'Breds. On the final play of the game, Colosimo fired an end-zone pass to Vocke just over the goal line. Vocke was hit immediately by a NewCath defender, jarring the ball loose. The officials ruled complete, which sent NewCath coach Eddie Eviston rushing onto the field in protest, but to no avail. "I caught that pass," Vocke said. "I just waited for the official to give it to me."

10/22/10 - Week 9 - Newport @ Holy Cross |
It was senior night at Holy Cross as Newport came in trying to earn their first home playoff game since 1999. Two very high powered offenses took the field but in the end, turnovers became a pivotal part of the game. Newport struck first at the 9:37 mark as QB Demitri Brown ran one in from 3 yards out. Newport would take a 7-0 lead. Unfortunately for Newport, that would be the only lead they would have. Holy Cross came back with a Chad Fuller 3 yard run to tie the game at 7 at the end of the first quarter. Here's where the turnovers came in. Kyle Fuller would score for the Indians at the 10:25 mark in the second quarter giving Holy Cross the lead 14-7. Newport would drive down the field and was ready to score, but Josh Jasper, our Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the Game intercepted the pass and ran it back 96 yards for another Holy Cross score. On the ensuing kickoff, Newport fumbled the ball giving it right back to Holy Cross. the next play was a 35 yard catch by Jasper, his second score of the game making the score 27-7. Holy Cross wasn't finished in the half yet. A 3 yard run from Chad Fuller with 2:32 to go and another Josh Jasper score with 47 seconds to go in the half made it 41-7 going to halftime. Newport would score at the 5:01 mark with Rodney Orr catching an 82 yard reception from Brown to make it 41-14. but on the next drive, Chad Fuller would run one in from 13 to make it 48-14 at the end of the third quarter. Holy Cross would get their last score on a 21 yard Kyle Fuller run as the 4th quarter got underway making the score 55-14. Newport would finish off their scoring in great fashion with Matt Shepherd picking up a Holy Cross fumble and taking it back 70 yards for the final score in the game making it 55-21. Holy Cross will get the # 2 seed in the Class 2A playoffs and will play Carroll County, while Newport gets the #3 seed and will travel to Louisville Christian Academy for their first round playoff game.

10/15/10 - Week 8 - Scott @ Holmes |
Week 8 brought us to Holmes for our first look at the Bulldogs this year. In filming the preview at the beginning of the year, I knew they would be a very fast team. We saw that speed tonight. Scott got on the board first at the 8:45 mark in the first quarter with a Nick Farris 21 yard catch and with the 2 point conversion made it 8-0 Scott. Holmes would get a 1st quarter score at the 5:25 mark when Damien Oden ran it in from 7 yards out. The second quarter saw a point explosion for the Bulldogs. Jonathan Scruggs ran the first one in from 3 yards out at the 10:11 mark giving Holmes the lead. A lead they would not lose. Carlos Gipson caught a 35 yard catch for another score at the 9:07 mark. QB Jesse Jensen would score before the end of the half at the 1:20 mark to make the score at the half 27-8. Jesse would add another score in the 3rd quarter from 1 yard out at the 9:05 mark to make it 34-8. Damien Oden would get his second score in the game in the 4th quarter as he ran one in from 5 yards out, making the score 40-8. Scott would get their final score at the 9:00 minute mark with a 2 yard run from Justin Hoskins. A complete 2 point conversion would make the score 40-16. Holmes would add a final score at the 2:57 minute mark as Damien Oden took a 24 yard run to the house for his third TD, making the score the final 47-16. Damien Oden was given the Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the Game award for his efforts in the game.

10/8/10 - Week 7 - Boone County @ Cooper |
Week 7 took us to Cooper HS for our final regular season look at Class 6A as the Boone County Rebels looked to end a 4 game skid against the host Jaguars. Cooper got on the board first on the second play from scrimmage as Jaguar RB, D'Vonte Bradley ran one in from 69 yards out giving Cooper a quick 7-0 lead. Bradley would have 25 carries for 245 yards in the game. Boone County would answer on a Trevan Brown 65 yard pass completion from Bryson Thompson with 8:16 to go in the first quarter to tie the game at 7. Mike Hollifield would add a a 25 yard field goal giving Cooper a 10-7 lead after the first quarter. That would be the only lead the Jaguars would hold in the game. Enter Jordan Oppenheimer. The SR running back from Boone County would gain 214 yards on 32 carries and 4 touchdowns to carry Boone County to a 34-20 win. Boone outscored Cooper 27-10 in the final three quarters. Jordan also earned the Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the game honors for his efforts. Jordan's TD's came at the 6:22 mark in the second quarter from a yard away, at the 11:05 mark in the third quarter from 2 yards out, and two scores in the 4th quarter from 2 and 9 yards out respectively. Cooper would out gain Boone County in yardage, 373 to 327, but came up short on their first district win. Boone County gains their first district win of the season.

10/1/10 - Week 6 - Campbell County @ Ryle |
Our second week in the Class 6A District schedule takes us out to Ryle as we saw one of the best games of the year. On paper, you think that Ryle wins this one going away, but not the case. They did get the scoring underway on the opening kickoff as Travis Elliott ran it back to the house from 94 yards giving Ryle a quick 7-0 lead. Campbell County would score their first points on a Grant Mahoney 35 yard field goal with 3:51 to go in the first quarter making the score 7-3. Ryle would close out the first quarter at the 2:37 mark with a 47 yard run by Connor Hempel giving the Raiders a 14-3 lead going into the second quarter. Travis Elliott would extend the Raider lead to 21-3 with a 28 yard run at the 8:16 mark .Toward the end of the half, Jake Rebholtz would haul a 17 yard catch in with 21.9 seconds to go to close the gap going into halftime, 21-10, but again, on the kickoff, Deion Mullins ran it all the way to the house 80 yards to again push the Raider lead to 18 going into the half with a 28-10 score. Campbell County came out of the locker room fired up and ran the first series all the way in capping the drive off with a Cory Hodge 34 yard catch from Michael Kremer with 10:16 to go in the quarter. Ryle would get their last score in the game with 1:21 left as Travis Elliott got an 86 yard run with 1:21 to go in the 3rd to make the score 35-17. This is where it got interesting. Ryle would not score again. Campbell County opened up the 4th quarter with a Michael Kremer 2 yard run with 9:41 to go making the score 35-24. On the Camels next drive, Cory Hodge again ran in a score, this time from 58 yards out to close the gap within 5 points at 35-30. With 3:40 to go, Elliott fumbled the ball as Ryle was driving down the field. Campbell County recovers. Campbell drives down the field and throws an interception right back to Elliott who was blown up on the play, he would not return due to his injury. At the end of the play and due to the hit, Elliott fumbled the ball again. Giving Campbell County the ball back again. As the Camels drove down the field and with about 1:30 to go, Kremer threw another INT to Tony Burtraw on the 2 yard line. Ryle would push the ball up field and ran out the clock, escaping with the 35-30 win to remain undefeated in District Play. Travis Elliott became the first player to earn back to back Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the Game honors with his efforts. 242 yards on 23 carries, a 94 yard kickoff return for one of his three TD scores.

9/25/10 - Week 5 - Ludlow @ Bishop Brossart |
Unfortunately, my guys threw away my stat sheet with all of the scoring, otherwise, I would have the game breakdown right here. We did give Spencer Brown the Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the Game award as chosen by Dave Schabel and his internet radio crew for his two touchdowns. Jordan Fromeyer did hit a school record 45 yard field goal in the second half. I apologize for not having the breakdown. Great game by the Mustangs who remain as one of the unbeaten teams left in NKY.

9/24/10 - Week 5 - Simon Kenton @ Conner |
We start off our coverage of District Football play in Class 6a as the Simon Kenton Pioneers head out to Hebron to take on the Conner Cougars. The last time that SK went to Union, the Cougars pulled off a big upset of the Pioneers with a last second score. Unfortunately this year, that wasn't the case. Simon Kenton got the scoring underway in the first quarter as the mobile Pioneers QB, Chad Lawrence ran one in from 3 yards out with 44.9 seconds to go in the quarter. SK up 7-0. The score would bloom to 21-0 going into halftime with a 30 yard TD play that defies description. Credit DJ Rabe with the score with 4:23 to go in the half. Conner had blocked a FG attempt, but the ball came back to the holder, QB Lawrence who picked it up and got Rabe in the end zone. Coach Trosper argued the call, but according to Referee Steve Fromeyer the ball did not cross the line of scrimmage, so it could be advanced. Zach Carroll would close out the scoring in the half with 5.8 seconds to go with an 11 yard catch from Lawrence. The third quarter would see more of the same from Simon Kenton as the Cougar offense really couldn't get going. Chad Lawrence would run another score in from 40 yards out with 8:53 to go in the third making the score 28-0. Danny Wetter would also score for the Pioneers with a 20 yard run of his own to extend the lead to 35-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Just a minute into the 4th quarter, Jake Schneider would recover a Conner fumble and take it to the house from 2 yards out making the score 42-0. The lone Conner score came from backup QB Drew Barker with a 6 yard run with 8:56 to go in the game. the final scoring play came from Jared Swanson for SK with a 38 yard run with 6:51 to go, making the final 48-6. Chad Lawrence earned the Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the game honors for his efforts in the game. 17 rushes for 190 yards and 2 TD's, 10-26 in the air for another 138 yards totaling 328 yards of offense.

9/17/10 - Week 4 - Carroll County @ Walton-Verona |
We have chronicled many things for Walton-Verona. When we put the schedule together for this year and found out that the football field was getting lights, it was a no brainer that we were going to broadcast this game. We're glad we did. The Bearcats got the ball rolling as the lights came on in the second quarter with Zack MacAdams as he scored on a 26 yard run, but the extra point failed giving the Bearcats a 6-0 lead. Carroll County would come right back and score on a Tyshawn Embs 14 yard run with 5:16 to go. With the extra point, the Panthers took a 7-6 lead into the locker room at the half. Carroll County would score unanswered points coming into the 3rd quarter. The first came on a 38 yard run by Brody Newby at the 9:53 mark. Carson Butcher was a name it seemed that we were constantly calling for Carroll County. The running back seemed to be in on each and every play for the Panthers. He scored what would be the final Panther score with 2:31 to go in the 3rd quarter on a 33 yard run. Walton wasn't finished yet though.Zach MacAdams would score his second TD in the game at the 10:34 mark in the 4th quarter making the score 21-12. The final score for Walton-Verona came on a botched play when a fumble inside the 3 yard line by Walton was batted around and went into the end zone. Quincy Page landed on it pulling the Bearcats within 3 at 21-18. Andrew Baumgartner converted the 2 point conversion to pull within 1 point. Walton had a chance to win, but the clock ran out of time giving the win to Carroll County, 21-20. Carson Butcher earned the Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the game award for his efforts, 31 carries for 219 yards and one TD.

9/9/10 - Week 3 - Bellevue vs. Scott @ Dixie Heights |
This game would have marked the first game on the new turf field at Scott, however, the bleachers had not yet been installed so the game was moved to Dixie Heights. Scott's Coach Dave Campbell said in his pre-game interview that the Eagles were going to change some things up and indeed they did, starting with personnel at QB, where Ryan Sowder took over for Joey Heeb. Ryan, whose brother Zach last year led the Eagles in most offensive categories, picked up where older brother left off. The scoring got underway in the 1st quarter when Ryan broke out a 30 yard run to the end zone at the 7:35 mark. The extra point was blocked making the score 6-0. Add 10 yards to the first one and you have the second one on the first play in the second quarter. Scott went for the 2 point conversion, but it failed giving the Eagles a 12-0 lead into halftime. Bellevue came back and played inspired football to start out the second half. DJ Slater, who took over the running back position from Ricky Buckler, did so very well with a 21 yard run 46 seconds into the third quarter cutting into the Scott lead, 12-6. Slater would score again in the quarter with 3:13 to go in the quarter with a 3 yard run. The extra point gave Bellevue a 13-12 lead. The lead would last for 2 minutes and 10 seconds on the clock as Scott would get a third quarter score from Sowder, his third of the game with a 32 yard run. The 2 point conversion was good making the score 20-13. Each team would score once more in the 4th quarter. Scott would score their final points on a 10 yard pass play from Sowder to Nick Farris with 5:22 to go. The extra point failed making the score 26-13. Bellevue would add another score with 1:57 to go as Brandon Fogelman caught a 11 yard pass from Jordan Sparks to finish the scoring, 26-20. Zach Sowder earned the Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the game award with his three touchdowns.

9/3/10 - Week 2 - Conner @ Lloyd Memorial |
In the pre-game interview we did with Coach Roy Lucas from Lloyd Memorial, he said that they scheduled hard the first part of the year in order to learn from their opponents. After this game, both the Conner Cougars and Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts will have something to build on after watching the game film. On paper, this game may not be the most exciting, but in actuality, we had a blast covering it. We saw a Lloyd Memorial defense bend and bend but not break. They held Conner to a couple of goal line stances without punching it in. Give it up to Conner's defense too which forced a safety to get the scoring underway in the second quarter, 2-0. Cameron Fogle, our Custom Trophy & Apparel Player of the game scored for the Cougars with 5:17 to go on a 50 yard pass play from Cy Smith. Conner took a 9-0 lead into the locker room at the half. In the third quarter, Cy Smith picked up where Nick West left off being a mobile QB for Conner with a 25 yard running TD giving Conner a 16-0 lead and the game only got worse for Lloyd Memorial. with 5:30 to go in the quarter, Cameron Fogle would score his second TD in the game from a yard out, giving Conner a 23-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Lloyd Memorial muffed the punt return and Conner got the ball back. One play and 6 seconds later, Taylor Miller caught a 25 yard pass from Cy Smith making the score 30-0. Backup QB Drew Barker would cap off the scoring and the game for Conner with a 44 yard run to make the final score 36-0. Penalties were a big part of the game as well, which will be looked at this week in practice by both teams. Conner will have Dixie Heights next week, while Lloyd Memorial has Dayton on the road. Cy Smith threw for 255 yards and ran for another 142 giving the senior 397 yards of offense for the Cougars. Cameron Fogle had 4 catches for 108 yards and two TD's.

8/28/10 - Grant County Bowl Game 2 - Owen County vs. Grant County |
As border wars go, there is a very strong one in the southern part of the area between Grant County and Owen County. This rivalry game almost got started at our preview show, but was contained to Grant County as the finale of the 5th Annual Grant County Bowl. We were definitely not disappointed as both teams spent the first quarter getting used to playing in game situations again. Both teams playing in their first game of the year. The scoring got underway in the 2nd quarter when Nathan Davis for Grant County ran one in from 2 yards out and with the extra point, Grant went up 7-0 at the 8:18 mark. Owen County answered on the next drive as Luis Sanchez ran one in from 3 yards out, but Owen County went for and completed the 2 point conversion at the 6:48 mark making it 8-7, Owen County. The rest of the scoring took place in the 3rd quarter with Grant County scoring first on a 40 yard run by Justin Loomis. The extra point was missed making the score 13-8. This at the 9:04 mark. Owen County would re-take the lead and eventually the game on a 76 yard run by Collin Trammel with 57.4 seconds to go in the third quarter. The score and final was 14-13, but that would not be the deciding factor in the game. At the 2:15 mark in the 4th quarter, Grant County had the ball on the 48 yard line with a 4th & 2 to go. Grant County needed to go for it, but a huge defensive stop by Owen County turned the ball over on downs. Owen County could not move the ball much in the second half due to both starting offensive tackles being sidelined to injury and on their last drive, went 3 & out. Owen County kicked off the ball with 36 seconds to go. Grant County went to let the punt die, but it took a bounce and touched a Grant County player. Owen County jumped at the opportunity and grabbed the ball and after taking a knee, took the game. Sawyer Williams was named our Custom Trophy & Apparel player of the game for his defensive play throughout the game.

8/28/10 - Grant County Bowl Game 1 - Dayton vs. Pendleton County |
Our first game of the 5th Annual Grant County Bowl was between the Dayton Greendevils and the Pendleton County Wildcats. The game can really be summed up in 1 word. Penalties. There were a boat load of them and it definitely cost points on the board. It really doesn't matter what kind, facemask, offsides, unsportsmanlike conduct, both sides suffered. Was it because it was the first game for both teams?? Don't know, but definitely wouldn't want to be in the film viewing room this week. Pendleton County would get the scoring underway in the second quarter with 6:28 to go as Travis Daugherty ran one in from 5 yards out. The 2 point conversion failed making the score 6-0. Pendleton County would again score before the first half with 49 seconds to go on a 58 yard catch from Sam Harrison to Austin Pyles. The 2 point conversion was good making the score 14-0. Dayton would be held scoreless until the 4th quarter when with 4:23 to go, Danny Sparks caught a 20 yard catch from Jordan Smith and with the missed extra point the score and your final was 14-6. Sam Harrison was awarded the Custom Trophy & Apparel player of the game from Pendleton County for his efforts on the offense.

8/20/10 - Crosstown Showdown Game 2 - Ryle vs. CovCath |

The second game of the night put the highly talented Ryle Raiders up against the Covington Catholic Colonels. This is the first game we have broadcast of the Colonels in the 3 years we have been doing games. It's one we won't forget. This game became the Travis Elliott show in a hurry as he was our Custom Trophy & Apparel player of the game. Travis accumulated 268 yards on the ground and the Raiders 608 yards of offense became the 12th most in all time according to the KHSAA. The scoring started with a 20 yard run by Elliott to open up the second quarter. Covington Catholic would answer on a 87 yard kickoff return by Paul Ritter, but that would be all of the scoring for the Colonels. Elliott would have runs of 3 yards, 62 yards, & 57 yards for his 4 TD's. Don't forget about Ryle QB Connor Hempel, who also ran a score in from a yard out. The score was 19-7 at the half. Ryle would then run off 42 more unanswered points, 21 in the 4th quarter with the second team in. Scoring for the Raiders was Deion Mullins with a couple of 6 yard TD runs, Jacob Nutter ran a 49 yard Interception back to the house and the final score came from Tanner Pulice from 61 yards out. the final 61-7, Ryle.

8/20/10 - Crosstown Showdown Game 1 - Dixie Heights vs. Newport Central Catholic |
We had the pleasure of broadcasting the first game played in the state last night as part of the 13th Annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown as the Dixie Heights Colonels and the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds hooked it up in a repeat of our first broadcast from last year. We were able to save everything this year for you to enjoy!!! This game marked the first start for Dixie's Zeke Pike, Northern Kentucky's most sought after QB by almost every SEC Div. 1 team. It also marked the first game for the Thoroughbreds under first year head coach Eddie Eviston who takes over for Coach Bob Schneider who retired after 44 years on the sidelines. Dixie started out hot in the first quarter as the Colonels scored with 4:30 to go on a Matt Higgins reception from Pike to give the Colonels a 7-0 lead. Dixie would strike again with 2:42 to go in the quarter with a Seth Bruns 60 yard run. NCC would get on the board in the second quarter with a Bryan Doyle 49 yard pass reception from Brady Highchew to make it 14-7.Dixie would answer with 1:49 left in the half as Pike took it in from 1 yard out to give the Colonels a 21-7 halftime lead. NCC would strike first in the second half on a Brennan Dault 27 yard reception making the score 21-13 with a missed extra point. Dixie would score what would be their final TD at the 2:31 mark with another run from Seth Bruns. This one from 26 yards out giving the Colonels a 28-13 lead. NCC would then drop 22 unanswered points on the Colonels. A 1 yard run and 2 point conversion at the 10:22 mark in the 4th quarter made the score 28-21. Less than 2 minutes later, Chris Kelly would tie the game at the 7:57 mark with a 2 yard run. Brady Highchew would score the game winner, running from 10 yards out with 3:56 left in the game to make the score 35-28 which would be the final.
